Angel Island Overnight Backpacking Trip
Backpacking on Angel Island is one of the most unique trips anywhere. Where else can you take a ferry to an uninhabited island in the midst of a metropolitan area of more than 7 million people? Join us for this unique experience! This is the First of our Progressive Backpacking Series! As our first backpack, we're taking it slow and starting with a mellow, 2.5 mile hike into camp. Our goal is to familiarize you with the rhythm of backpacking and teach the basics of hiking, establishing camp, cooking and having a good time.
What to Expect: We will be exploring historic Angel Island, formerly a US Immigration Station for the West Coast, from a beginner backpackers point of view! Additionally, UD host and photographer Steve will be offering photo walks and classes! We'll begin by taking the ferry to the island from San Francisco, then hiking about 2 miles to our camp. Upon arrival we will enjoy a BYOLunch as we take in the Bay Area from the middle of the Bay. After lunch, we'll set up camp and allow people the option of relaxing or coming along for a hike to the highest point on the island, Mount Livermore. Steve will incorporate a photo workshop into our hike to Mt. Livermore, so don't forget your cameras. He'll focus on teaching visual storytelling so that you return with more than just snapshots of the journey. After our hike, we'll descend back to camp in time to make dinner and relax the evening away under the stars.
Space is limited: Campsite availability on Angel Island is very limited due to demand and NPS regulations, so register ASAP to be assured a spot. Sign up now.
