JOIN IT! SF soon turns on 50,000 LED lights
(soon.. but not yet) So we are doing one of our beloved peak hikes to get one last glimpse of the bay at night before the lights come on.
In March 2023, the beautiful lights on the Bay Bridge went dark indefinitely. The art installation had fallen into disrepair and was in need of a much-needed upgrade. Fast forward to today: thanks to generous donations from private donors, Illuminate—the nonprofit responsible for the stunning art installation—has reported that they have nearly reached their ambitious $11 million goal to reinstall the lights. Installation and testing have begun, and they are putting up 50,000 lights—twice as many as the previous installation.
What to Expect:
We are pretty surethe lights will not come on before this date, as rumored dates keep changing... if they do, then we are there! Join us for a relaxing post-work waterfront walk from Fisherman’s Wharf to the Ferry Building. Along the way, we’ll soak up stunning bay views and cap it off with dinner at Hog Island Oyster Company. The highlight of the evening? The bay before the newly reinstalled Bay Bridge lights, back after a two-year hiatus and shining brighter than ever with double the number of lights! From our perfect vantage point at the Ferry Building, we’ll take in this dazzling display and celebrate the bridge’s brilliant comeback. Comfortable shoes, good vibes, and a sense of wonder are all you need!

Hog Island Oyster Bar offers the finest selection of oysters, craft cocktails, and an ever-changing seasonal menu that features seafood fresh off the boats and produce plucked from the local Farmers’ Markets. Enjoy Hog Island’s finest while looking out over San Francisco Bay, the Bay Bridge, and Treasure Island.
Not a seafood lover, fear not they have a killer grilled cheese and other vegetarian/ vegan options.
