San Jose Open Street Fair:

Bike Party w/ Viva Calle-SJ

Explore the Streets of San Jose: Bike, Skate, and Play!

You may have driven through San Jose hundreds of times, but have you ever explored the diverse range of food, music, art and culture while wandering through the middle of the streets with hundreds of people? Open streets festivals are one of the best ways to get to know your neighborhood while connecting with other fun locals. This year, we'll be exploring the Downtown, SOFA, and San Carlos districts of San Jose.

*Note: this free public festival is put on by Viva CalleSJ - this event is for our members to enjoy the festivities and explore the city together*

Viva CalleSJ:

"VivaCalleSJ is inspired by similar Open Streets programs hosted in Los Angeles; San Francisco; Portland; Guadalajara, Mexico; and other cities around the world. The name combines the Spanish “Viva Calles,” which can mean both “the streets live” and “long live the streets.” VivaCalleSJ is managed by the City of San José’s Department of Parks, Recreation, and Neighborhood Services, with outreach and engagement support provided by Silicon Valley Bicycle Coalition. VivaCalleSJ has been generously supported by Knight Foundation, which believes that democracy thrives when people and communities are informed and engaged."

What to Expect:

If you're coming in from out of town: our meetup location is right across from the San Jose Diridon Caltrain station, so you can easily take public transit! Driving is an option too - just plan to arrive a bit early to find parking.

VivaCalleSJ’s route will take participants through some of San José’s most eclectic and historic neighborhoods. The open street events brings people and communities together to walk, bike, skate, play and explore the explore the city like never before! It is not a race, so you can start anywhere and have as much fun as you want, in either direction.

We'll meet up at a local park in the middle of the route (register or add yourself to the watchlist for more details on meetup location) before cruising around, taking in the sights, stopping whenever the urge strikes, and ending with a lunch together at either a local park or at one of the delicious local spots along the way. Let the energy in the air take over as we roll, ride, and cruise through the streets, appreciate the local community, admire the skills of local talent (last year saw some awesome bike trick performers!), and honor the historic culture and diversity in this amazing eclectic south bay city.
