ABOUT THE PERSEIDS METEOR SHOWER:
This meteor shower is truly a must-see. The Perseids is known for having the most breathtaking display of the year, with up to 130-150 shooting stars per an hour on the peak day (August 11-12th, 2024). This display occurs as Earth passes through the debris left behind by the Comet called "Swift-Tuttle," painting our night sky with tons of shooting stars.
This year, the Perseids will be extra bright and visible due to the moon being absent, unlike other years when the moon drowns out the stars. We chose our campsite for the gorgeous Eastern Sierra mountain views and dark night skies... plus its located next door to a stunning natural hot spring. That means we can watch the meteor shower from the hot springs!
ITINERARY
DAY 1 | Friday,
Arrive in the Eastern Sierra + Soak in the hot Springs!
Arrive any time during the day
Check in with your host at the campsite and set up your personal tent
Try to call off work today so you can get a head start on your drive. If you're leaving from the city, it will be about a 5.5 hour drive. Sunset today is around , so you'll want to arrive no later than 6:45pm so you can set up camp while there is still daylight. Make sure to get some dinner on your way to camp if you are coming in late.
The end of the day means enjoying a delicious group meal together, a crackling fire & s'mores.
DAY 2 | Saturday,
Hike in a scenic lakes basin + hot springs exploring!
After our first night of R&R, our host will make a nourishing breakfast and coffee to get you fueled up. Feel free to take a morning dip in the hot spring, or the cool alpine fed creek to wake yourself up before we head out for our day of adventuring.
Today is a great time to visit the beautiful hike in the Eastern Sierra that takes us through a scenic lakes basin surrounded my lush meadows and ragged mountain peaks.
The late afternoon is a great time to explore the hot springs, read a book, or nap in the hammock.
As night approaches, your awesome host will prepare a delicious camp dinner and refreshments. We will start the campfire and roast marshmallows as the sun sets.
hot springs are small members will explore the various hot springs tonight, and view the meteor shower before its peak night tomorrow.
DAY 3 | Sunday,
Meteor shower peak night!!
Today will be a balance between outdoor adventure, exploration and plenty of moments of peaceful relaxation.
A yummy breakfast will be prepared, with freshly brewed coffee.
To start our day, explore a gorgeous alpine lake, and those brave enough can do a cold plunge!
You will have the option to explore some of the natural wonders in the area, such as Mono Lake Tufas, volcanic columns, geothermal craters, Obsidean Dome, and many vista points. We will be driving through cute mountain towns along the way, such as June Lake -- the world is our oyster!
Tonight is the peak night of the meteor shower, and it is bound to be spectacular! We will spend the night watching the night sky as it is painted with tons of sparkling shooting stars. Although we will see stars and meteors each night this weekend, NASA predicts we will see the most stars on Saturday night. After this experience, you can't help but find yourself grounded and recharged... without a busy schedule, or any responsibilities, except enjoying yourself!
Please note: We recommend staying through Monday, and making it a long weekend to maximize your visit. However, if you are unable to stay through Monday, we fully understand if you need to head home today.
DAY 4 | Monday,
One more dip in the hot spring + optional Ghost Town walk
Our weekend mountain getaway is nearing its end. Your host will prepare fresh coffee and breakfast, and we will begin packing up camp.
On your way home, you will have the option of stopping at an awesome Historic ghost town called Bodie. It is a hidden gem, and a favorite place for capturing awesome photography. This is known as the best preserved gold rush town in all of California, and is a lot of fun to walk through. It is very much worth the stop. See photo to the right
If you are craving more hot springs, there are a few located along the drive home, your host can point you in the right direction.
Have a safe drive, but before you head off, make sure to exchange numbers with new camp friends :D
