Prepare to be amazed by some of the most extreme and jaw-dropping scenery in the entire country. You won't believe you're still in California!

Stargazing Extravaganza: With some of the darkest skies in the world and perfectly timed with the moon, you'll witness nightly starry-sky shows that will leave you in awe.

Epic Landscapes: Imagine giant sand dunes, impressive colorful rock formations, astounding viewpoints, and world-famous sunsets. Death Valley, the largest National Park in the US, brings us face-to-face with breathtaking vistas around every turn.

More About Stargazing in Death Valley:

Death Valley is known for some of the most extreme stargazing on the entire planet! We have planned it perfectly with the new moon, which means we will see TONS of stars!

With no city lights to block the view, the park has been recognized as the largest Dark Sky Park in the United States! As the sun sets beneath the peaks, watch the night sky fill up with BRIGHT stars. Before you know it, you'll be able to see the entire Milky Way Galaxy! Sleep under a blanket of stars and wake up to the amazing hues of the sunrise, it doesn't get any better than that folks!

Why November is the perfect time to visit Death Valley:

November is the perfect time to visit Death Valley, where you can enjoy warm, sunny days with temperatures averaging around 70-80°F and cool, pleasant nights in the 40-50°F range. It's an ideal setting for hiking, exploring, and stargazing without the summer heat or heavy crowds. Plus, the sunsets in the Fall are EPIC!

Itinerary:

Friday:

It is a lengthy drive from the Bay Area (yet very worth it)! Please plan accordingly, and if you need carpool, please post a message on the event wall to find carpool easier.

Your host strongly suggests that you plan to arrive before sunset to make setting up your tent easier. If not, do not worry, we will help you! If you plan to arrive to camp after 7:30pm, please pick up dinner on the way, we will have the campsite set up and we can enjoy a desert campfire! Don't worry, our dispersed campsite is easy to find, and we will send you a google pin once you sign up for the trip.

Saturday:

We will start the day with coffee and breakfast made by your UD host!

Then it is off on our first day exploring Death Valley! We will start our day with a stop at Zabriskie Point for a quick hike with BIG pay off in the terms of a great view!

The Mesquite Sand Dunes: An impressive stop at an epic sand dune area. This is a fun and easy hiking area, with tons of picture ops.

Then it is off to Mosaic Canyon: An epic 3.5-mile out-and-back trail with 950ft elevation gain, generally considered a moderately easy route. An easy hike with a huge pay off!

We're eating lunch on the road, so we will pack a trail lunch, or pick something up in town! After an awesome day enjoying the park, we will return to camp to have dinner, enjoy a fire, and take some long exposure photos of the stars!!

Sunday:

We will have a full day of exploring!! Your host will get coffee, breakfast ready. We will prepare a trail lunch for our day and then hit the road.

Let's go to The Golden Canyon for a 2.5 mile hike. This is a gorgeous hike through an epic canyon, with an awesome red rock natural formation at the end called "The Cathedral." It is also the site where different parts of the original Star Wars trilogy were filmed!! So cool!

Next, we’re driving to The Artist’s Loop! This is a short drive and series of short hikes that takes us through the multi-colored mountains! There is an incredible vista point that we’ll stop and take lots of pictures. We can also walk through the canyon or hike up some of the hills!

Then we are off to check out Bad Water Basin for sunset like you've never seen it before! This is an amazing spot for photography (check out the sunset photo below this paragraph!). Bad Water Basin is magical, and described as sacred by Native Americans. We will hike around a bit and enjoy the scenery until the sun has set. Don't worry, we will bring snacks to hold us over until we get back to camp for dinner around 7-7:30pm. After exploring, we’ll head back to camp for our final dinner and campfire of the weekend.

Monday:

Our last day! We will make our back home, with a stop at some epic hot springs of course! We will wake up early, pack up camp, and grab some snacks/early lunch for the drive back.

Hot springs on the way home: Stopping at these hot springs only adds 15-30 minutes to the drive, depending on traffic and road work, we think it is a must do! Imagine gorgeous natural mineral tubs, built up on the edge of a river. It is so serene and lovely, and the perfect mid drive rest stop!
