How likely are we to see the Aurora?
On a normal year, spending 4 nights in Fairbanks in January provides a 90% likelihood of seeing the aurora, so in a high-activity year like 2025 is predicted to be, our chances are even better. We’ll use aurora forecasts to track activity and make the most of our time, with options to visit incredible viewing spots like Chena Hot Springs and Murphy Dome.
It is important to remember that the aurora is a natural phenomenon. While we are in the best location and season for viewing, it cannot be guaranteed. Factors like cloud cover, solar activity, and weather conditions can impact visibility. That said, the aurora often rewards patience and persistence, and by staying multiple nights and remaining flexible, we’re maximizing our opportunities to witness this breathtaking display. Even if conditions aren’t perfect every night, the experience of being surrounded by Alaska’s stunning winter landscapes is magical in itself.
