It's the FREAKIN Catalina Wine Mixer... AND we are camping out!!! Get ready for an epic island camping getaway filled with wine, live music, stunning ocean views, and adventure. Plus, join us for an optional kayaking and snorkelling excursion in Catalina's crystal-clear waters. Spots are limited let us know if you're in and which option works best for you! Whether you’re here for the wine, the adventure, or just to yell, “It’s the FREAKIN’ Catalina Wine Mixer!”—this is a trip you don’t want to miss.
Spend the weekend sipping wine, exploring stunning beaches, and soaking in those classic island vibes with an amazing crew. We’ll be camping under the stars(with a limited number of spots available for hotel accommodations for those who prefer a little extra comfort).

WHAT IS INCLUDED:

NOT INCLUDED:
Round-trip ferry to Catalina Island – No need to worry about logistics, we’ve got it covered
Mixer Wine Tasting tickets or Movie tickets at the mixer
Personal Travel to LA area (flight or drive)
Personal drinks, food out, & extras – Wine tastings, food out, coffee, and anything extra you'd like to partake in
Optional kayak/snorkel rental – If you want to join the excursion but don’t have your own gear
Travel insurance – Just in case life throws a curveball
WHAT TO BRING:
Since we’re camping on Catalina, you’ll need to bring some essential gear to stay comfortable.
Tent – Bring your own or coordinate with a friend to share
Sleeping bag – A warm one for cool island nights (rated to about 25-30°F should be good)
Sleeping pad – Comfort is key for a good night’s rest
Simple mess kit – Plate/bowl, utensils, and a lightweight cup for meals
Headlamp or flashlight – Essential for navigating after dark
Toiletries for shower etc
Hiking clothes and sturdy shoes – Be ready for island trails and adventure
Layers for warmth – Evenings can be cool with the ocean breeze
Sunglasses, hat, and sunscreen – The sun can be strong, even in cooler weather
Personal toiletries and travel essentials – Keep it minimal but bring what you need
Fun outfit for the Catalina Wine Mixer – You may want to bring something less "campy" to wear for the mixer
Small daypack / tote– For carrying essentials while exploring

Camping on Catalina Island
We’ll be staying at Hermit Gulch Campground, the only campground located within Avalon’s city limits, nestled in a scenic canyon surrounded by rugged island landscapes. This spot offers easy access to trails, stunning views, and a peaceful outdoor setting, while still being just a short hour walk or shuttle ride from the lively downtown area.
HOTEL Option:Please check out this event page for info on the hotel lodging options for the weekend. Those that choose this route are encouraged dine and hangout with the main UD camping group throught out the weekend :)
Our Campsite Includes:
Tent camping with designated campsites

Convenient access to Avalon – a short hike or quick trolley ride away
Beautiful hiking trails right from camp, including the famous Hermit Gulch Trail
Whether you’re an experienced camper or new to it, this is the perfect blend of adventure and accessibility—immersing you in Catalina’s natural beauty, while keeping the Wine Mixer and all the fun within easy reach.
Note about walking on the Island:
Walking is the primary form of transportaion on the island. Other than our feet, there is a shuttle and taxi system, or rental golf carts. For those staying at Hermit Gulch Campground, keep in mind that the campground is about a 20 minute walk from the downtown Avalon area (the fun spot). You can also choose to opt for the shuttle option for a small fee, which is a great alternative if you’d rather save your energy.

ITINERARY
DAY 1 | Friday
Friday, May 30 – Arrival & Opening Night
Afternoon: Welcome to LA! Take the ferry to Avalon with the group at 2pm. We will then take the shuttle or taxi to Hermit Gulch Campground, and set up camp :)
Evening: Your host will cook a delicious dinner back at camp
8:00 PM - 10:00 PM:Movie Screening of Step Brothers at Avalon Theatre – Watch the movie that started it all inside the historic Casino Theatre (must get movie tickets for the screening - see the website for more info)
9:30 PM - 12:00 AM:Beach Party at Descanso Beach Club – Open to the public, so we’ll dance the night away under the stars.
DAY 2 | Saturday
Saturday, May 31 – Island Adventure & Wine Mixer Fun
Morning: Your host will make a delicious camp breakfast
Late Morning/Early Afternoon:Kayaking OR snorkeling excursion.
Paddle through sea caves and spot marine life (optional activity, ask host for details if interested)
3:00 PM - 9:00 PM:Live Entertainment at Descanso Beach Club.
For those that opt into the optional GA wine tasting tickets, this wine tasting event is included with your ticket. BUT even without GA tickets, we can still chill at the beach club lawn and soak in the lively atmosphere and live music!
Evening: Sunset stroll, beach hangout, and dinner in town before heading back to the wine club for more music and dancing!
DAY 3 | Sun
Sunday, June 1 – "Back on the road again"
Morning: Leisurely breakfast at camp, and one last walk along the beach or a quick hike for those that rise and shine!
Late Morning: Pack up camp and head back to Avalon to catch the ferry
Afternoon: Ferry back to the mainland – say goodbye to Catalina until next time
Please note: the movie screening of Step Brothers is a ticketed event that can either be purchased on its own.

Friday, May 30
Beach Party at Descanso Beach Club (9:30 PM - 12:00 AM) – Open to everyone, no ticket required
Step Brothers Movie Screening (8:00 PM) – This is a movie event that can be purchased on its own for around $30, or included with VIP ticket. See the link above for tickets
Saturday, May 31
Descanso Beach Club open (10:00 AM - 1:00 PM) – Open to the public before ticketed events begin
Live Entertainment on the Lawn (3:00 PM - 9:00 PM) – Confirmed as open to the public, so you can enjoy the music and energy of the Wine Mixer without needing a ticket
What Requires a Ticket (GA or VIP):
Opening Bash at the Casino (Friday, 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM)
Wine Tastings at Descanso Beach Club (Saturday, 3:00 PM - 5:00 PM)
If you just want to soak up the scene, dance at the Friday night Beach Party, and listen to live music on Saturday, you DO NOT need a ticket.
If you want access to wine tastings, exclusive areas, and VIP perks, a GA or VIP ticket is required.
If you just want to explore Catalina, you can still enjoy the town, beach, and hikes without any tickets
The Catalina Wine Mixer is designed so everyone can enjoy the experience—whether you’re going all-in with VIP access or just hanging out and enjoying the music for free!
