Big Hike: 
Creepy Crawlies

We're going to go out on the hunt to find some tarantulas! 

What to Expect:

Picture this: a sunlit hike up Mt. Diablo with the goal of spotting some of nature's most intriguing bachelors—male tarantulas during their mating season. As you trek along the trails, you'll see these gentle giants scurrying about, completely harmless to humans and more interested in finding a lady love than bothering hikers. Their dark, furry bodies stand out against the golden grass, making them easier to spot. So, pack your curiosity and perhaps a camera, because this hike promises a unique and fascinating glimpse into the wild world of tarantula romance.

• A great nature loving host to lead you on a hike and help you spot tarantulas 
• A challenging hike through the East Bay mountains 
  • 7.7 miles with 2,208 ft of elevation gain 
• Snacks
• UD friends to share in this creep crawly experience with 
• A beautiful trail with amazing views of the East Bay

What to bring:  

• Hiking boots/ shoes
• Lunch
• Flashlight/head lamp
• Warm layers 
• Hiking shoes 
• Water requirements:
  • 80°-90° = minimum 2L of H2O
    >90° = minimum 3L of H2O
    This is a firm requirement; not enough H2O = no go
     

Attire: Casual, comfortable. Layers!  It's always a good idea to carry an insulating layer and a headlamp on all hikes just in case of emergency.
